Summary |
This gene does not have any Entrez summary - the following is the summary from its human ortholog ENSG00000104131:
Eukaryotic initiation factor-3 (EIF3) has a molecular mass of about 600 kD and contains 13 nonidentical protein subunits, including EIF3J. EIF3 plays a central role in binding of initiator methionyl-tRNA and mRNA to the 40S ribosomal subunit to form the 40S initiation complex (Fraser et al., 2004 [PubMed 14688252]; Fraser et al., 2007 [PubMed 17588516]).[supplied by OMIM, Mar 2008] This gene encodes a core subunit of the eukaryotic initiation factor 3 complex, which participates in the initiation of translation by aiding in the recruitment of protein and mRNA components to the 40S ribosome. There are pseudogenes for this gene on chromosomes 1, 3, and 9. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2013] |
