Summary
Ctss is an endosomal and lysosomal protease that is upregulated during various inflammatory disorders. Tlr2, 3, 4 ligand engagement increases the proteolytic activities of Ctss in macrophages.
InnateDB Annotation from Orthologs
Summary
[Homo sapiens] CTSS is a member of the Cathepsins protein family, which are key modulators of cell death and inflammatory responses.
[Homo sapiens] CTSS is an endosomal and lysosomal protease that is upregulated during various inflammatory disorders. TLR2, 3, 4 ligand engagement increases the proteolytic activities of CTSS in macrophages. (Demonstrated in murine model)
[Homo sapiens] Cleavage of CAMP by cathepsins CTSS and CTSK impairs its antimicrobial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus.
Entrez Gene
Summary This gene does not have any Entrez summary - the following is the summary from its human ortholog ENSG00000163131:
The protein encoded by this gene, a member of the peptidase C1 family, is a lysosomal cysteine proteinase that may participate in the degradation of antigenic proteins to peptides for presentation on MHC class II molecules. The encoded protein can function as an elastase over a broad pH range in alveolar macrophages. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been found for this gene.
