InnateDB Annotation
Summary
NFKB1 (p50) is a distinct form of NF-kappaB that interacts with STAT3 and cooperates with STAT3 bound to GAS sites.
NFKB1 is a subunit of the NF-kappaB transcriptional regulator complex. NF-kappaB is an inducible transcription factor that regulates the expression of numerous genes involved in immune and inflammation responses and in cellular growth control.
NFKB1 enforces specificity of cellular response to pathogens by binding to a subset of IRE sequences in IFN-inducible genes. NFKB1 deficiency results in the inappropriate production of IFNB in response to bacterial DNA sensed by TLR9. (Demonstrated in murine model)
InnateDB Annotation from Orthologs
Summary
[Mus musculus] Nfkb1 enforces specificity of cellular response to pathogens by binding to a subset of IRE sequences in IFN-inducible genes. Nfkb1 deficiency results in the inappropriate production of Ifnb in response to bacterial DNA sensed by Tlr9.
[Mus musculus] Mir126-Kdr axis is an important regulator of the innate response. Mir126 controls the survival and function of plasmacytoid dendritic cells and regulates gene expression of Tlr7, Tlr9, Nfkb1 and Kdr.
[Mus musculus] Ripk3 has a novel function in NF-kB activation, dendritic cell biology, innate inflammatory-cytokine expression, and injury-induced tissue repair.
Entrez Gene
Summary This gene encodes a 105 kD protein which can undergo cotranslational processing by the 26S proteasome to produce a 50 kD protein. The 105 kD protein is a Rel protein-specific transcription inhibitor and the 50 kD protein is a DNA binding subunit of the NF-kappa-B (NFKB) protein complex. NFKB is a transcription regulator that is activated by various intra- and extra-cellular stimuli such as cytokines, oxidant-free radicals, ultraviolet irradiation, and bacterial or viral products. Activated NFKB translocates into the nucleus and stimulates the expression of genes involved in a wide variety of biological functions. Inappropriate activation of NFKB has been associated with a number of inflammatory diseases while persistent inhibition of NFKB leads to inappropriate immune cell development or delayed cell growth. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]
