SERPINB9 upregulation increases the threshold for granzyme B-mediated apoptosis in TECs and protects the kidney against cytotoxic insults during viral infection.

This protein inhibits the activity of the effector molecule granzyme B. Overexpression of this protein may prevent cytotoxic T-lymphocytes from eliminating certain tumor cells.
