Summary |
[Homo sapiens] CD14 co-receptor participates with toll-like receptors (TLRs) in the response of microglial cells to fibrillar forms of beta-amyloid, contributing to microglial activation.
[Homo sapiens] CD14 recognizes necrotic cells in addition to LPS, PG, apoptotic cells, and lipids, suggesting that it might be a universal adaptor for damage-associated molecular pattern (DAMP) and pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMP).
[Homo sapiens] CD14 is a molecule that binds to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and facilitates its signalling by helping TLR4-LY96 to sense and signal the presence of LPS.
[Homo sapiens] CD14 contributes to nucleic acid uptake in macrophages and acts as a co-receptor for endosomal TLR7/TLR9 activation.
[Homo sapiens] CD14 acts as an adaptor molecule for the immune recognition of salmonella curli fibers.

Summary |
This gene encodes a protein that plays an important role in the innate immune response and is expressed in monocyte/macrophage cells. This gene product acts as a co-receptor that binds several microbial and fungal molecules, including lipopolysaccharides (LPS). This proteins LPS-binding activity is enhanced by the LPS binding protein (LBP) to allow binding to the TLR4-MD-2 co-receptor complex. The product of this gene is found in two forms, either as a soluble protein or attached to the cell surface by a glycosylphosphatidylinositol anchor. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2014] |
