Summary
[Homo sapiens] LGALS1, the prototype of a family of beta-galactoside-binding proteins, is involved in monocyte chemoattraction at sites of inflammation where it stimulates monocyte migration in a dose-dependent manner via the p44/42 MAP kinase pathway.
[Homo sapiens] LGALS1 and LGALS3 play opposing roles in the inflammatory responses to Trichomonas vaginalis infection.
Entrez Gene
Summary This gene does not have any Entrez summary - the following is the summary from its human ortholog ENSG00000100097:
The galectins are a family of beta-galactoside-binding proteins implicated in modulating cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions. This gene product may act as an autocrine negative growth factor that regulates cell proliferation. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
