Summary This gene encodes a preproprotein that is processed into multiple biologically active small secreted peptides. Expression of this gene is regulated by cocaine and other drugs, and is associated with feeding/appetite and stress response. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been observed encoding different protein isoforms, each of which are subsequently processed into CART I and CART II mature peptides.
