Summary |
[Homo sapiens] IL25, a member of the IL17 cytokine family, promotes the accumulation of a lineage-negative multipotent progenitor (MPP) cell population in the gut-associated lymphoid tissue that promotes T(H)2 cytokine responses, presenting an innate immune pathway that promotes T(H)2 cytokine responses at mucosal sites.
[Mus musculus] Chitin induces IL25, IL33, and TSLP which are required to stimulate ILC2 production of IL5 and IL13. IL5 and IL13, in turn, are required for the accumulation of eosinophils and alternatively activated macrophages that are associated with allergy.
[Mus musculus] Tuft cells express Il25 and elicit group 2 innate lymphoid cells in a Trpm5-dependent manner in response to parasite colonization.

Summary |
This gene does not have any Entrez summary - the following is the summary from its human ortholog ENSG00000166090:
The protein encoded by this gene is a cytokine that shares sequence similarity with interleukin 17. This cytokine can induce NF-kappaB activation, and stimulate the production of interleukin 8. Both this cytokine and interleukin 17B are ligands for the cytokine receptor IL17BR. Studies of a similar gene in mice suggest that this cytokine may be a pro-inflammatory cytokine favoring the Th2-type immune response. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
