Gene Symbol NIT2
Protein Name nitrilase family, member 2
Synonyms
Species Homo sapiens
Ensembl Protein ENSP00000377696
InnateDB Gene IDBG-47288 (NIT2)
Protein Structure
UniProt Annotation
Function Has a omega-amidase activity. The role of omega-amidase is to remove potentially toxic intermediates by converting alpha- ketoglutaramate and alpha-ketosuccinamate to biologically useful alpha-ketoglutarate and oxaloacetate, respectively. Overexpression decreases the colony-forming capacity of cultured cells by arresting cells in the G2 phase of the cell cycle. {ECO:0000269PubMed:17488281, ECO:0000269PubMed:19595734}.
Subcellular Localization Cytoplasm {ECO:0000269PubMed:17488281}.
Disease Associations
Tissue Specificity Detected in fetal brain (at protein level). Ubiquitous. Detected in heart, brain, placenta, lung, liver, skeletal muscle, kidney, pancreas, prostate, spleen, thymus, prostate, testis, ovary, small intestine and colon. {ECO:0000269PubMed:14528910, ECO:0000269PubMed:17488281}.
