Summary
Naip5 regulates the specificity of the Nlrc4 inflammasome for distinct bacterial ligands such as flagelllin.
Naip5 is a NOD-like receptor protein that directly and specifically binds to bacterial flagellin. Naip5 is a universal component of the flagellin-Nlrc4 inflammasome pathway.
Microglial cells employ the NAIP5/NLRC4 inflammasome to monitor and clear central nervous system infections by flagellated bacteria.
