Summary
[Homo sapiens] GAS6 is a ligand for all members of the TAM receptor tyrosine kinase family, each of which has different affinities to GAS6.
[Homo sapiens] GAS6 signals through the AXL receptor and the PI3-kinase/Akt1 survival pathway, protecting oligodendrocytes from growth factor withdrawal and TNF-alpha-mediated cell death.
[Homo sapiens] GAS6 works with PROS1 to synergistically suppress the basal and TLR-triggered production of inflammatory cytokines in macrophages. (Demonstrated in mice)
[Mus musculus] Gas6 works with Pros1 to synergistically suppress the basal and TLR-triggered production of inflammatory cytokines in macrophages.

Elevated protein levels are additionally associated with a variety of disease states, including venous thromboembolic disease, systemic lupus erythematosus, chronic renal failure, and preeclampsia.
