Subcellular Localization Cytoplasm. Nucleus. Nucleus membrane. Note=The 27 kDa peptide associates with the fibrous sheath in mature spermatozoa and localizes to the principal piece of sperm tail while the 55 kDa peptide localizes to the midpiece.
Disease Associations
Tissue Specificity Testis specific where it is expressed in spermatids; however the 27 kDa peptide is also detected in liver while the 55 kDa peptide is detected in retina, brain and kidney (at protein level). {ECO:0000269PubMed:14585816, ECO:0000269PubMed:16643851}.
