CREB1 and AP1 transcription factor activation regulates LPS- or M-CSF-induced activation of the MAPK phosphatase-1 (MKP-1) gene, a protein phosphatase that plays a crucial role in innate immunity.
CREB1 has a key role in transcriptional regulation of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) gene expression and MIF-dependent host antimicrobial innate immune defence.
CREB1 and CEBPB are involved in cytokine production in neutrophils in response to LPS and TNF.

Summary This gene encodes a transcription factor that is a member of the leucine zipper family of DNA binding proteins. This protein binds as a homodimer to the cAMP-responsive element, an octameric palindrome. The protein is phosphorylated by several protein kinases, and induces transcription of genes in response to hormonal stimulation of the cAMP pathway. Alternate splicing of this gene results in two transcript variants encoding different isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
