Protein Structure
Function |
Catalyzes a base-exchange reaction in which the polar head group of phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) or phosphatidylcholine (PC) is replaced by L-serine. In membranes, PTDSS1 catalyzes mainly the conversion of phosphatidylcholine. Also converts, in vitro and to a lesser extent, phosphatidylethanolamine. {ECO:0000269PubMed:10432300, ECO:0000269PubMed:9516423}.
Subcellular Localization |
Endoplasmic reticulum membrane {ECO:0000269PubMed:10938271}; Multi-pass membrane protein {ECO:0000269PubMed:10938271}. Note=Highly enriched in the mitochondria-associated membrane (MAM).

Disease Associations |
Tissue Specificity |
Expressed in kidney, testis, lung, skeletal muscle, liver brain, heart and spleen with highest expression in testis, liver, heart and brain. {ECO:0000269PubMed:10432300}.
