Synonyms
Species Mus musculus
Ensembl Protein ENSMUSP00000064494
InnateDB Gene IDBG-177834 (Ostb)
Protein Structure
UniProt Annotation
Function Essential component of the Ost-alpha/Ost-beta complex, a heterodimer that acts as the intestinal basolateral transporter responsible for bile acid export from enterocytes into portal blood. Efficiently transports the major species of bile acids. Modulates SLC51A glycosylation, membrane trafficking and stability activities. {ECO:0000269PubMed:15563450, ECO:0000269PubMed:22535958}.
Subcellular Localization Cell membrane {ECO:0000269PubMed:15563450, ECO:0000269PubMed:17650074, ECO:0000269PubMed:22535958}; Single- pass membrane protein {ECO:0000269PubMed:15563450, ECO:0000269PubMed:17650074, ECO:0000269PubMed:22535958}. Note=Mainly restricted to the lateral and basal membranes of ileal enterocytes.
Disease Associations
Tissue Specificity Present at high level in ileum. In ileum, it is restricted to the apical domain on the mature villus enterocytes with little detectable expression in the goblet cells or crypt enterocytes (at protein level). Expressed in kidney but not in heart, brain, liver, spleen, embryo, lung, thymus, ovary nor testis. {ECO:0000269PubMed:15563450}.
