Gene Symbol CDH11
Protein Name cadherin 11, type 2, OB-cadherin (osteoblast)
Synonyms CAD11; CDHOB; OB; OSF-4;
Species Homo sapiens
Ensembl Protein ENSP00000268603
InnateDB Gene IDBG-34793 (CDH11)
Protein Structure
UniProt Annotation
Function Cadherins are calcium-dependent cell adhesion proteins. They preferentially interact with themselves in a homophilic manner in connecting cells; cadherins may thus contribute to the sorting of heterogeneous cell types.
Subcellular Localization Cell membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein.
Disease Associations Note=A chromosomal aberration involving CDH11 is a common genetic feature of aneurysmal bone cyst, a benign osseous neoplasm. Translocation t(16;17)(q22;p13) with USP6. The translocation generates a fusion gene in which the strong CDH11 promoter is fused to the entire USP6 coding sequence, resulting in USP6 transcriptional up-regulation.
Tissue Specificity Expressed mainly in brain but also found in other tissues. Expressed in neuroblasts.
