Summary
Il13 dampens the innate immune response in airway epithelial cells via Irak3-mediated inhibition of Tlr2 signalling. (Demonstrated in human)
IL13 produced by activated innate lymphoid cells type 2 (ILC2s) is critical for promoting the migration of activated lung dendritic cells to the draining lymph node, and in the differentiation of naive CD4+ T cells into Th2 cells
InnateDB Annotation from Orthologs
Summary
[Homo sapiens] IL13 is a pro-M2/Th2 cytokine that induces alternative activation of macrophages. IL13 associates with IL13RA1 to activate the transcription factor STAT6.
[Homo sapiens] IL13 dampens the innate immune response in airway epithelial cells via IRAK3-mediated inhibition of TLR2 signalling.
Entrez Gene
Summary This gene does not have any Entrez summary - the following is the summary from its human ortholog ENSG00000169194:
This gene encodes an immunoregulatory cytokine produced primarily by activated Th2 cells. This cytokine is involved in several stages of B-cell maturation and differentiation. It up-regulates CD23 and MHC class II expression, and promotes IgE isotype switching of B cells. This cytokine down-regulates macrophage activity, thereby inhibits the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines. This cytokine is found to be critical to the pathogenesis of allergen-induced asthma but operates through mechanisms independent of IgE and eosinophils. This gene, IL3, IL5, IL4, and CSF2 form a cytokine gene cluster on chromosome 5q, with this gene particularly close to IL4. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
