Summary |
[Homo sapiens] NFKB2 (p49/p100 subunit) associates efficiently with RELB and up-regulates the synthesis of NFKBIA (IKappaB-alpha).
[Homo sapiens] NFKB2 plays a key role in the regulation of RELA activation, suggesting an overlap in the function of NF-kappaB members in canonical and non-canonical pathway signalling.
[Homo sapiens] NFKB2 rearrangement gene product (p58) localizes in the nucleus to form a complex with RELA or RELB, suggesting that such NFKB2 gene rearrangement may therefore be a factor in the constitutive activation of NF-kappaB in adult T-cell leukemia (ATL), and thereby playing a role in the ATL pathogenesis.
[Homo sapiens] NFKB2 negatively regulates TCR signaling by binding with RELA, RELB, REL and NFKB1 (p50) in the cytoplasm and inhibiting these proteins from entering nucleus.
[Homo sapiens] NFKB2 limits TNF-induced bone resorption in mice by a TRAF3-dependent mechanism.

Summary |
This gene does not have any Entrez summary - the following is the summary from its human ortholog ENSG00000077150:
This gene encodes one of the subunits of the transcription factor complex nuclear factor-kappa-B (NFkB). The NFkB transcription factor complex is expressed in numerous cell types and functions as a central activator of genes involved in inflammation and immune function. The NFkB complex can consist of different subunits that form both homo- or heterodimers which bind specific kappa-B elements in target genes. This gene encodes the p100 subunit that is processed into the active p52 subunit. This protein can function as both a transcriptional activator and repressor, depending on its dimer partner. Alternate splicing results in both coding and non-coding variants. [provided by RefSeq, May 2012] This gene encodes a subunit of the transcription factor complex nuclear factor-kappa-B (NFkB). The NFkB complex is expressed in numerous cell types and functions as a central activator of genes involved in inflammation and immune function. The protein encoded by this gene can function as both a transcriptional activator or repressor depending on its dimerization partner. The p100 full-length protein is co-translationally processed into a p52 active form. Chromosomal rearrangements and translocations of this locus have been observed in B cell lymphomas, some of which may result in the formation of fusion proteins. There is a pseudogene for this gene on chromosome 18. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2013] |
