Homo sapiens Protein: NIT1
Summary
InnateDB Protein IDBP-104187.7
Last Modified 2014-10-13 [Report errors or provide feedback]
Gene Symbol NIT1
Protein Name nitrilase 1
Synonyms
Species Homo sapiens
Ensembl Protein ENSP00000356986
InnateDB Gene IDBG-104181 (NIT1)
Protein Structure
UniProt Annotation
Function Plays a role in cell growth and apoptosis: loss of expression promotes cell growth and resistance to DNA damage stress. Has tumor suppressor properties that enhances the apoptotic responsiveness in cancer cells; this effect is additive to the tumor suppressor activity of FHIT. It is also a negative regulator of primary T-cells. Has apparently no omega-amidase activity such as NIT2 (By similarity). {ECO:0000250}.
Subcellular Localization Cytoplasm. Mitochondrion {ECO:0000250}.
Disease Associations
Tissue Specificity Detected in heart, brain, placenta, liver, skeletal muscle, kidney and pancreas. {ECO:0000269PubMed:9671749}.
