Gene Symbol C9
Protein Name complement component 9
Synonyms
Species Mus musculus
Ensembl Protein ENSMUSP00000022749
InnateDB Gene IDBG-128081 (C9)
Protein Structure
UniProt Annotation
Function Constituent of the membrane attack complex (MAC) that plays a key role in the innate and adaptive immune response by forming pores in the plasma membrane of target cells. C9 is the pore-forming subunit of the MAC.
Subcellular Localization Secreted {ECO:0000250}. Cell membrane {ECO:0000250}; Multi-pass membrane protein {ECO:0000250}. Note=Secreted as soluble monomer. Oligomerizes at target membranes, forming a pre-pore. A conformation change then leads to the formation of a 100 Angstrom diameter pore (By similarity). {ECO:0000250}.
