May function as a clearance receptor for NPPA, NPPB and NPPC, regulating their local concentrations and effects. May regulate diuresis, blood pressure and skeletal development. Disease Associations Note=Defects in Npr3 are the cause of a number of skeletal-overgrowth phenotypes, Longjohn (Lgj), Longjohn-2J (Lgj- 2J) and Strigosus (Stri). These are all recessive conditions characterized by an elongated body, thoracic kyphosis, arachnodactyly, and sacral and/or tail kinks, but no significant changes in craniofacial structures.
