Summary
InnateDB Protein IDBP-153722.6
Last Modified 2014-10-13 [Report errors or provide feedback]
Gene Symbol Glrb
Protein Name glycine receptor, beta subunit
Synonyms AI853901; Glyrb; spa; spastic;
Species Mus musculus
Ensembl Protein ENSMUSP00000029654
InnateDB Gene IDBG-153720 (Glrb)
Protein Structure
UniProt Annotation
Function The glycine receptor is a neurotransmitter-gated ion channel. Binding of glycine to its receptor increases the chloride conductance and thus produces hyperpolarization (inhibition of neuronal firing).
Subcellular Localization Cell junction, synapse, postsynaptic cell membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein. Cell membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.
Disease Associations Note=Defects in Glrb cause the spastic condition which is characterized by muscle rigidity, tremors, myoclonic jerks, pronounced startle reaction, abnormal gait and impaired righting ability.
Tissue Specificity High levels of expression in cortex, hippocampus, thalamus and cerebellum.
