Last Modified 2014-10-13 [Report errors or provide feedback]
Gene Symbol Kcnq4
Protein Name potassium voltage-gated channel, subfamily Q, member 4
Synonyms
Species Mus musculus
Ensembl Protein ENSMUSP00000030376
InnateDB Gene IDBG-183829 (Kcnq4)
Protein Structure
UniProt Annotation
Function Probably important in the regulation of neuronal excitability. May underlie a potassium current involved in regulating the excitability of sensory cells of the cochlea.
Subcellular Localization Basal cell membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein. Note=Situated at the basal membrane of cochlear outer hair cells.
Disease Associations
Tissue Specificity In the inner ear expressed in the outer sensory hair cells of the cochlea and in type I hair cells of the vestibular organs. Also expressed in the postsynaptic membrane of the calyx nerve endings innervating type I cells. In the brain expressed in neurons of many, but not all, nuclei of the central auditory pathway. Absent from most other brain regions. {ECO:0000269PubMed:10760300}.
