Gene Symbol GNAO1
Protein Name guanine nucleotide binding protein (G protein), alpha activating activity polypeptide O
Synonyms EIEE17; G-ALPHA-o; GNAO;
Species Homo sapiens
Ensembl Protein ENSP00000262494
InnateDB Gene IDBG-31702 (GNAO1)
Protein Structure
UniProt Annotation
Function Guanine nucleotide-binding proteins (G proteins) are involved as modulators or transducers in various transmembrane signaling systems. The G(o) protein function is not clear. Stimulated by RGS14.
Subcellular Localization Cell membrane {ECO:0000250}.
Disease Associations Epileptic encephalopathy, early infantile, 17 (EIEE17) [MIM:615473]: A severe neurologic disorder characterized by onset of intractable seizures in the first weeks or months of life and usually associated with EEG abnormalities. Affected infants have very poor psychomotor development and may have brain abnormalities, such as cerebral atrophy or thin corpus callosum. Some patients may show involuntary movements. {ECO:0000269PubMed:23993195}. Note=The disease is caused by mutations affecting the gene represented in this entry.
