Function DNA deaminase (cytidine deaminase) which acts as an inhibitor of retrovirus replication and retrotransposon mobility via deaminase-dependent and -independent mechanisms. Selectively targets single-stranded DNA and does not deaminate double-stranded DNA or single-or double-stranded RNA.
