Gene Symbol TRPC4
Protein Name Short transient receptor potential channel 4
Synonyms
Species Bos taurus
Ensembl Protein ENSBTAP00000055610
InnateDB Gene IDBG-629819 (TRPC4)
Protein Structure
UniProt Annotation
Function Thought to form a receptor-activated non-selective calcium permeant cation channel. Probably is operated by a phosphatidylinositol second messenger system activated by receptor tyrosine kinases or G-protein coupled receptors. Has also been shown to be calcium-selective. May also be activated by intracellular calcium store depletion. Acts as a cell-cell contact-dependent endothelial calcium entry channel (By similarity). {ECO:0000250}.
Subcellular Localization Membrane {ECO:0000305}; Multi-pass membrane protein {ECO:0000305}. Cell membrane {ECO:0000250}; Multi-pass membrane protein {ECO:0000250}.
Disease Associations
Tissue Specificity Expressed in adrenal gland. Lower expression in heart and retina. Also expressed in testis. The short isoform is specifically expressed in the adrenal gland.
