Bos taurus Protein: GLRA1
Summary
InnateDB Protein IDBP-699140.2
Last Modified 2014-10-13 [Report errors or provide feedback]
Gene Symbol GLRA1
Protein Name Glycine receptor subunit alpha-1
Synonyms
Species Bos taurus
Ensembl Protein ENSBTAP00000019143
InnateDB Gene IDBG-646345 (GLRA1)
Protein Structure
UniProt Annotation
Function The glycine receptor is a neurotransmitter-gated ion channel. Binding of glycine to its receptor increases the chloride conductance and thus produces hyperpolarization (inhibition of neuronal firing) (By similarity). {ECO:0000250}.
Subcellular Localization Cell junction, synapse, postsynaptic cell membrane {ECO:0000250}; Multi-pass membrane protein {ECO:0000250}. Cell membrane {ECO:0000250}; Multi-pass membrane protein {ECO:0000250}.
Disease Associations Note=Defects in GLRA1 are the cause of inherited congenital myoclonus of Poll Hereford calves. It is an autosomal recessive disease characterized by hyperesthesia and myoclonic jerks of the skeletal musculature that occur both spontaneously and in response to sensory stimuli. {ECO:0000269PubMed:11178872}.
