Species Mus musculus
Ensembl Protein ENSMUSP00000063757
InnateDB Gene IDBG-185538 (Slc29a1)
Protein Structure
UniProt Annotation
Function Mediates both influx and efflux of nucleosides across the membrane (equilibrative transporter). It is sensitive (ES) to low concentrations of the inhibitor nitrobenzylmercaptopurine riboside (NBMPR) and is sodium-independent. It has a higher affinity for adenosine. Resistant to dipyridamole and dilazep inhibition (anticancer chemotherapeutics drugs).
Subcellular Localization Basolateral cell membrane {ECO:0000250}; Multi-pass membrane protein {ECO:0000250}. Apical cell membrane {ECO:0000250}; Multi-pass membrane protein {ECO:0000250}. Cell membrane {ECO:0000250}; Multi-pass membrane protein {ECO:0000250}. Note=Predominantly localized in the basolateral membrane in polarized MDCK cells. {ECO:0000250}.
Disease Associations
Tissue Specificity Highly expressed in heart, spleen, lung, liver and testis. Lower level of expression in brain and kidney. {ECO:0000269PubMed:11027664}.
