Summary This gene encodes one of the three enolase isoenzymes found in vertebrates. Enolase is a dimeric enzyme that converts 2-phosphoglycerate to phosphoenolpyruvate as part of the glycolytic pathway. This isozyme is found in skeletal muscle where it is involved in muscle development and regeneration. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2013]
