Summary
Elf1 transcription factor negatively regulates Tollip, a negative regulator of Toll-like receptor (TLR) signalling, in response to O-linked N-acetylglucosamine (O-GlcNAc) modification. In intestinal epithelial cells insufficient O-GlcNAc modification prevents Elf1-mediated transcriptional repression and thereby suppresses TLR signalling via upregulated Tollip gene expression. (Demonstrated in human)
